APA Receives $400,000 Anonymous Gift

The Animal Protective Association of Missouri received a gift of $400,000 to further their mission of bringing people and pets together. The generous donor asked to remain anonymous.
The APA, an independent non-profit organization founded in 1922, is an open-admission animal shelter that takes in approximately 4,000 stray and surrendered pets each year.
With this new gift, the APA will be able to add three dog “get acquainted rooms,” remodel its Humane Education Room, add a library for the public to learn more about pets and create a new and improved adoption center.

Recent improvements to the shelter’s campus have reduced the stress and disease in the pets, as well as facilitate adoptions. New lighting and tile were added to the dog rooms, a fenced area for the dogs to play outside off-leash was constructed, multi-level cat condos were built and an additional “get acquainted room” was configured in the cat room.

“Every improvement we’ve made to the facility in the past five years was made possible because of donors, and for that we are extremely grateful,” says Steve Kaufman, Executive Director. “Not one single dollar has or will be taken from animal care or shelter operations to pay for these improvements."

Construction on the facility is set to begin this Spring, and the APA will maintain normal operating hours. |
